Michał Słowiński

Experimental physicist working on high-resolution molecular spectroscopy, precision measurements, and cryogenic experiments.

Room: A.2.23

Bio

Most of my research revolves around high-resolution molecular spectroscopy - specifically, analyzing experimental data, spectral line shapes, and the effects of molecular collisions. I build theoretical models to interpret what we measure, and I write the software that handles measurement control, data acquisition, and analysis. Ultimately, my goal is to bridge raw experimental results with the physical processes that drive them.

Taking this work down to cryogenic temperatures has opened entirely new doors for precision spectroscopy. With reduced Doppler broadening and cleaner spectra, we can study molecular interactions in much greater detail and rigorously test ab initio and quantum-electrodynamic calculations. I’ve been involved in building our cryogenic setup since day one, back when our current labs were just storage rooms for obsolete gear. Since then, I’ve helped shape the main experimental concept, drafted CAD designs for various components, and designed the optical cavity. I'm still hands-on with the daily construction and upgrades to the setup.

Beyond the pure research, I help keep the lab running smoothly. That involves everything from designing equipment mounts and setting up cooling circuits for cryocooler compressors, to tweaking UV lasers for specific experimental needs. I also handle the practical side of things: coordinating equipment orders, managing lab supplies, and keeping our group’s website up to date.

When I'm not in the lab, I’m a happy husband and a proud dad to two daughters.
